                                                   Services

Kaleidoscope offers many services a la carte, and we create custom publishing packages tailored to an author’s specific needs.

We offer:

Ministry identity coaching: Many new writers and speakers are unsure if they should pursue writing, speaking, or both. Or they struggle with figuring out how it all works together. Or they are uncertain how to move toward following God’s calling to share their message. Ministry identity coaching is usually the solution. Includes an initial assessment, then a session of two to four hours. This is individualized coaching and is not appropriate for groups. Cost: $75/hour, minimum two hours.

Content evaluation: Includes a one-hour virtual meeting to determine your primary needs and concerns about your manuscript. We will read and evaluate your manuscript’s quality, considering your goals and brand. We’ll deliver a written report of your project’s strengths and weaknesses with suggestions for improvement and other options you might consider. Cost is based on word count. Price range: $300-$1,000.

Writer coaching: Includes a one-hour initial meeting to review a completed questionnaire and determine where you are as a writer, as well as your immediate and long-term goals. Once we determine how we can best serve you, we will create a program that best fits your needs. Cost of initial meeting $100. Program costs vary depending on services.

Online courses: We offer several courses: 1) Email Marketing $370, 2) Podcast Guest $370, and 3) Edit Your Novel Like a Pro $699. Each course includes one hour of individual coaching upon completion. These courses may be included at a discount in publishing packages for Kaleidoscope authors. If a non-Kaleidoscope author purchases a course then signs with us within one year of purchase, we will subtract the cost of the course from the publishing package total, provided that course would have been part of the publishing package.

Book proposal creation: We respect that many authors want to pursue a traditional publishing contract, and we understand that creating a complete proposal can be daunting. We are happy to come alongside authors and create a proposal that is complete for your genre and accurate to your work. Price range: $1,200-$2,500.

Novel plotting coaching: Fiction writers often fear the “sagging middle” or get stuck making decisions regarding craft. This service includes an initial meeting and completed questionnaire review to insure the author’s goals for the manuscript are clear, achievable, and provide the reader with the desired takeaway. After evaluating a chapter outline, synopsis, and three opening or early chapters (up to 50 pages), we meet with the author for four to six hours to complete and/or amend the plan for the book. A written summary of all decisions made during the sessions is delivered to the author with actionable steps for moving forward in the desired direction. Price range: $450-$750.

Nonfiction book coaching: Nonfiction writers often struggle with creating a cohesive work. This service starts with an initial meeting and completed questionnaire review to insure the author’s goals for the manuscript are clear, achievable, and provide the reader with the desired takeaway.

Book doctor (manuscript overhaul): This service includes a content evaluation as listed above, followed by a second meeting to review options for improving and polishing the manuscript. Once that direction is determined, we will provide specific instructions for each scene or section to aid you in revising your book. Cost is based on word count and genre. Price range: $2,500 and up.

Proofreading: Errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and usage are corrected. This service also addresses mechanical errors such as formatting, style of footnote and bibliography citations, and style book conventions. Price: $0.015 per word.

Line edit: Includes rewriting sentences to improve readability, flow, rhythm, eliminate wordiness and redundancies, and proofreading as listed above. Price: $0.033 per word.

Print layout and eBook file conversion: For independent authors who need help creating their print and eBook files but don’t want to publish with Kaleidoscope (they want to handle their own sales and distribution), we offer print layout and eBook file conversion. We will deliver files ready to upload to Amazon and Ingram. Cost is based on word count, genre, and graphics content. Price range: $160 for every 10,000 words plus $400-$700 depending on the project.

Audiobook creation: Audiobook creation can be part of a publishing package. For Kaleidoscope authors, this service is offered at a discount and includes managing distribution and processing royalty payments. We also offer this service to non-Kaleidoscope authors. We will deliver files meeting ACX requirements. Price range: starting at $290 per finished hour of audio.

Ghostwriting: Our diverse team can help you from the concept/idea phase to completing a manuscript. Cost varies by genre, desired final word count, and other factors such as required research. Prices will vary and will be customized to each project.

Publishing: Our approach to publishing is personal and individualized. Our services include marketing and platform guidance from the moment the contract is signed. This starts with the author meeting with Shellie to create a long-term marketing plan. We use tag-team coaching throughout our editing process, giving the author feedback on what to do and how to do it, until the manuscript effectively communicates the author’s message in a polished manner. Our publishing packages include all editing, formatting and interior design, cover design, back cover copy, a customized three-pronged marketing plan, and assistance with audience engagement. While contracts vary, we typically make books available in print and eBook format on Amazon, Ingram, on our website, and to other vendors in our ever-growing network of independent wholesalers and distributors (totaling more than 1,800 across North America in 2025). Prices vary depending on genre, word count, interior graphics or design, and print medium. We believe our prices are very competitive. Our quotes are honored for three months. In effort to equip our authors to sell their books, our packages generally include one or more of the following:

> Email Marketing course for authors with Britt Mooney

>

*NEW—Coming in 2026: Kaleidoscope will offer a streaming video library on our website for group study and Bible study authors to enhance the participant experience (similar to Right Now Media). Our editors will work with the author to plan video content during the manuscript editing phase. In the future, the Kaleidoscope site will offer video content for other genres, as well. Video production costs will be evaluated on an individual basis.
